Our flight from the USA arrived at Munich airport around 10:30 AM. After going through immigration and customs, we followed the signs for S-Barn. There are two trains, S1 and S8, and both go to Munich hbf(center station) and take around 45 mins. We bought the group day ticket( up to 5 people) for Zone M5 and got off at Munich hbf. Our hotel was conveniently located 5 minutes walking from the station.
Our room wasn’t ready when we got there, so we left our stuff at the front desk and went to get lunch.
Schloss Nymphenburg The palace was constructed to serve as the royal family’s summer residence and is located 30 minutes outside the city. Public transportation makes getting there simple.
We took the Tram 17 opposite Munich hbf and got off at the Schloss Nymphenburg stop. As we walked towards the palace, there were beautiful swans in the canal.
They appeared to be posing for the photos and to have been at ease with the tourists there.
Although the gardens were extensive, we didn’t spend much time there because it was December, the trees weren’t green, and the flowers weren’t in bloom.
We entered the palace where we bought the tickets.
As we climbed the stairs, the first room we entered was stunning.
There was a beautiful chandelier on the ceiling.
We walked to the other rooms. There were only a few rooms open to the public. There were family portraits everywhere.
After we finished with the palace, we took tram 17 back to the city center.
We went to the famous beer hall Hofbrauhaus Munchen. The ambiance was great and it had ancient historical vibes. We tried their original Hofbrauhaus beer and some snacks to go with it. The beer mugs were huge. There was live music and we enjoyed our time here.
We walked towards Marienplatz, the central square in town. It was a short walk from the beer hall. Beautiful architecture, a sizable Christmas tree, and a breathtaking view of the new town hall were all present. It was nonetheless decorated for the season, in spite all Christmas markets were canceled due to an upsurge in cases of COVID
Frauenkirche church.
We started walking towards the Karlsplatz. Holiday lights attractively illuminated the streets.
Karlstor gate is one of the three remaining gates in Munich city walls.
It was a nice leisurely walk from Marienplatz to karlsplatz. The whole thing is pedestrian walkway filled with shops, nice way to end our evening. We went back to our hotel after enjoying our first day in Munich.
