EcoTermales Hot Springs

EcoTermales is a natural Hot Spring in the Arenal area. The water is heated naturally from the Arenal Volcano and has the medicinal properties of thermal waters without the sulfur smell.

We visited the hot springs in the evening as part of an optional tour offered by Gate1. We were picked up at the hotel and arrived in about half an hour.

Once we arrived, we were given wristbands that could be used to order any drinks, so we didn’t need to carry our wallets, credit cards, or money. Next, we were given a towel and locker key to put our belongings. The shower and bathroom facilities were also lovely and well-maintained. We changed and got ready for the hot spring experience.

The path to the pool was also very well maintained and surrounded by the local flora of the forest.

There were multiple pools, and the water ranged from 90° to 106°F, with the hottest pool on the top.

We sat under the water fall, which was very relaxing, and got a good massage.

We spent 15-20 minutes in each pool, starting from the top and moving to the next. The water temperature varies a little in all pools.

There was also a pool bar where you could order drinks at an additional cost.

They had eight pools with different temperatures, so you can try them all. It also had a freshwater pool, which is excellent for cooling off.

Once we were done, we used the shower facilities to change back and returned the towel and locker key.

It was very clean and well organized. Dinner was included in our price and had buffet-style, which included a variety of salad, vegetarian and meat options, and desserts and beverages.

After dinner we took the bus back to our hotel. It was very relaxing and a great way to wind down after the day of sightseeing. We booked it through Gate1 for $63. It took around 4 hours including transportation and dinner.

There are a lot of hot springs in the La Fortuna area, and you can visit any on your own too. If you wish to enjoy the hot springs more frequently, you can also stay at one of the resorts that exclusively have them on their grounds and offer day passes.

You can book this tour on your own or through your hotel or any tour company. Click here for the official website.
